What AVID Does
Simply, AVID prepares students for success in high school, college, and a career. The program originated 35 years ago in Los Angeles County and, today, works around the world to help students move into college and careers.
How AVID Works
AVID brings research‐based strategies and curriculum to middle schools and high schools globally. The AVID System annually provides more than 30,000 educators with training and methodologies that develop students’ critical thinking, literacy, and math skills across all content areas, in what we call Schoolwide AVID.
The AVID class trains students in college necessary skills and study techniques, so they become the leaders of the school-wide AVID based community.
- Teaches skills and behaviors for academic success
- Provides intensive support with tutorials and strong student/teacher relationships
- Creates a positive peer group for students
- Develops a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work, collaboration, and determination
